    Cookie?Cookie?

After a long break, I finally had time to check out one of the old horror flicks. Except this one's strictly for fans of cheesy horror, to be watched only if you are locked up in a basement where you are awaiting the nuke holocaust to clear. And it's the only video you have other than the Olsen Twin's Beach Party.

The movie in question is somewhat of a cult classic and goes by the name of Creature from the Haunted Sea. It was directed by the same guy who brought us A Bucket of Blood – i.e. Roger Corman. Incidentally the scriptwriter, Charles Griffith, was the same for both flicks as well. So how is it that these guys who put together absolute gems – and I mean this in the non-sarcastic way – can come up with this flip-flop of a flick?

  • I Know Who Killed Me: Worst Big Budget Horror Film Ever Made

    Add Comment

I Know Who Killed MeI Know Who Killed MeThis truly is horror in the sense that it is mind boggingly horrible to have to sit through this tedious, pretentious, steaming turd of a movie. Sweet Jesus, seldom have I seen anything so devoid of a good idea. The performances are shocking, the dialogue is hilariously bad and the direction is laboured and ultimately stylistically pointless.

The plot as far as I can tell is about a young girl in a small town who is abducted and tortured by a serial killer and manages to escape. Her hand and leg have been cut off and when she wakes up in the hospital, just to compound her family’s agony, she claims she isn’t Aubrey at all. She says she is Dakota, a trailer trash stripper with a junkie mother. The police find that Aubrey has written a short story about this other character and conclude that she is insane.

  • Best Seven Vampire Movies from the Eighties

    Add Comment

The eighties may be remembered as a time of rampant profiteering by slick haired scumbags listening to an array of bad pop music. It may be remembered for spiky hairstyles or shoulder pads or leg warmers with coloured headbands. It may also be remembered as the decade that rebooted the vampire genre with a few influential films. Here are the top seven vampire films of the eighties.

    VampVampVamp (1986)
Is there anything scarier than Grace Jones as a vampire? This 80’s comedy horror was about two teenage guys trawling for strippers at a seedy bar. Their disastrous night goes from bad to worse as, unfortunately for them, the strippers all turn out to be vampires. This was actually a pretty sharp and witty horror movie full of bizarre moments and From Dusk Till Dawn obviously borrowed from the premise.

  • Fulci's Gore: The Beyond (1981)

I’m gonna say that as a general rule, if your film, album or piece of writing gets banned, you might not be to well renowned in your own time, but subsequent generations will probably embrace your work with a stunning fervor a few years on. Such is the case with Italian horror director Lucio Fulci. Having begun his directorial career sometime during the fifties, it wasn’t until the circulation of VHS bootlegs featuring his work like The Beyond that made him a (kinda) household horror name. Of course, part of the reason that fans have been attracted to his work is ostensibly the same thing that got Fulci’s films banned in the first place. So, while he might not be perceived as an auteur – whether or not that was what he was going for is suspect anyway – Fucli has certainly attained a real fan-boy following.

SaunaSaunaOld horror has its thrills and chills but what about the new flicks? Is there anything new coming out? You know, something that is not a remake of an older movie. And so I put together this short list of noteworthy horror movies that are/will be released in 2009. Some of them are your typical run-of-the-mill slasher flick but others have definite promise of chills and thrills.

  • Book of Blood Review

Book of BloodBook of BloodThis is a spooky tale about a paranormal investigator, a psychic student and a very creepy house. It is based on a couple of short stories by master of horror Clive Barker. It is fairly well made for a low budget film and has a few thrills, scares and a bit of gore. The cast and direction are good and this is an enjoyable film for horror fans.

The film focuses on an old Georgian house in Edinburgh with a murky past. After a couple of mysterious deaths in the attic room a paranormal investigator and lecturer called Mary decides to rent the house. She needs a topic for her new book and the tales of séances and ghostly attacks are just what she is looking for. Her friend Reg comes along and sets up recording equipment so they can document the creepy events. The final piece of the puzzle comes in the shape of one of her students. A young guy called Simon who seems to have psychic powers.

  • The Haunting in Connecticut Review

The Haunting in ConnecticutThe Haunting in ConnecticutThe Haunting in Connecticut managed to rake in the cash on its opening weekend. The lure of a spooky movie about a real life haunted house proved too much for many people but if you missed it on the big screen don’t worry you didn’t miss much. Sadly this was another generic horror packed with trick jumps and ghosts lurking in the background of shots.
